Emma has suddenly come down with a cold. She is coughing all over the place and covering her mouth only 1 in 5 times. Since getting my last dose of good old chemotherapy, I am neutropenic
(meaning I do not have an immune system to fight off viruses and bacteria on my own). I need to spend most of my time in the basement and keep her upstairs. That is terrible. I want to give Emma big squeezes and play with her, but if I catch a cold, it could be worse than just having to go back to the hospital for 2 days.
The basement is not a bad place to be. I have a nice tv, comfy furniture, a half bath and more. My neutrophil counts are likely to stay down for another 3 weeks or so. After that, the chemo will wear off and my counts will come back up and things will be (somewhat) back to normal.
